long Zhixi of Intel China Research Institute: jointly meet the challenge of embedded research
two days ago, I attended the 2010 China International embedded conference held in Shanghai and thanked the organizers of the conference for inviting me to make a keynote speech. At the conference, I had in-depth exchanges with Professor niuxiaoming, President of Shanghai Academy of Sciences, Professor hejifeng, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor chaitianyou, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and other experts to discuss the challenges and Countermeasures Faced by embedded in the development process. Today, I would like to share with you some of my thoughts in these areas
the research and application of embedded system has experienced many years of development. At present, it has been widely used in many application fields, such as storage, communication, medical treatment, industry, vehicle and so on. We estimate that by 2015, there will be about 15billion embedded devices connected to the Internet. At that time, China will become the world's most potential producer and consumer of embedded devices
embedded products are produced to meet people's growing demand for personalized computing. Their wide application and rapid update make embedded products face multiple challenges in technology and business model
challenges to developers: shorter time, more complex requirements
first, embedded development needs to integrate more technologies in a shorter time. Different fields have different requirements for embedded products. The same thing is that they all want to support the fastest update of products at the lowest cost. Therefore, the development cycle of embedded products has entered the 6+6 mode, that is, the design will be completed within 6 months, and the products will be launched within 6 months. Moreover, embedded products are highly personalized and professional. For example, intelligent users should be able to identify whether the host wants to find a restaurant that best suits him or a friend's home nearby. To meet the functions at different levels, it is necessary to integrate various technologies such as hardware, software, services, content, etc
secondly, embedded products require small size, low power consumption, high performance, stability and reliability. In the future, engineers need to open and configure a process smaller than 32nm with a high-precision measurement and amplification system, which is like dancing on the tip of a needle. At the same time, because most embedded products use battery power, they also face more and more stringent power requirements. In addition, the embedded system needs to adapt to a variety of application conditions. For example, the on-board system needs to adapt to the working environment from minus 30 degrees to above 40 degrees, so the stability requirements will be higher and higher
challenges to entrepreneurs: more flexible and extensive cooperation
who can produce embedded products that meet 10000 demands at the same time? The answer is No. Different kinds of materials are tested for different materials. In the embedded field, we need to face the reality that we need to start the technology integration from the design level. Hardware manufacturers should cooperate with software manufacturers, and content suppliers will participate in the ecosystem more actively. It will be a challenge for embedded companies to integrate things designed by different standards, companies and regions through a healthy business and cooperation model
in addition, entrepreneurs should consider how to improve independent innovation from the strategic level. China will become the largest producer and consumer of embedded products. On the basis of cooperation with domestic and foreign companies, entrepreneurs should guide engineers to think about such issues as whether speech recognition can recognize Shanghai dialect and how to meet the usage habits of China's new generation, and lead companies to solve practical problems such as how to ensure the information security of a large number of embedded systems
cooperative innovation to jointly meet the challenges of embedded research
facing the challenges of embedded development, I firmly believe that as long as we deepen local industry and technology cooperation and innovate the cooperation mode, we will be able to form a competitive embedded industrial ecosystem in China
in terms of product development, the R & D department needs to change the traditional elaborate design mode, pay attention to modular design, broaden cooperation fields and shorten the development cycle, rather than invest a lot of energy in a certain part; In addition, IP cores from different sources should be integrated to find a balance between programmability and efficiency. At the same time, enterprises should adapt to close cooperation with other companies at all levels. Take the manufacturing of Intel microprocessors as an example. For more than 30 years, it has been designing, manufacturing and testing by itself, and has always been in a leading position. In the embedded field, Intel must also cooperate with other companies to integrate different technologies. The same is true for the business model. Intel is cooperating with Nokia, Google and other companies to expand the application field of embedded products
to meet the challenge of embedded research and innovation, we need to give full play to the value of industrial research institutes. Industrial research institutes can not only promote the innovation and transformation of technology, but also promote the innovation of business models. Intel China Research Institute is committed to embedded system research and will make unremitting efforts to promote the innovation process of embedded technology. Intel China Research Institute is oriented to embedded systems, and will continue to work closely with enterprises and academia at home and abroad to promote the development of the entire embedded industry based on the mission of being based in China and serving China. We also hope that the industrial research institutes of our partners can also become an important frontier of embedded innovation
as pointed out in this embedded conference, the development of embedded is in a period of inheriting the past and opening up the future. Only by strengthening sincere cooperation and innovation in the industry can we turn challenges into power and create a better embedded future
